Sharing Innovations Corner

The heart and soul of the Philadelphia Social Innovations Journal is to capture regional innovation that is hopefully scalable and sustainable.

The social sector is perceived to be one of the hardest to innovate, often due to funding challenges, such as categorical funding, or because the population served have multiple hardships that impact the success of any program.  Yet, some of the best innovations and their innovators you’ll read about in this Journal have found solutions to major issues within the Social Service sector.

We want defy all odds and invite you to submit your ideas to solve issues in the social sector.  So send us your idea, the problem it solves, and how it can be scaled and sustained.

If you think you have a solution to an issue in the Social Service Sector, share the following with us:

  1. Problem:  What’s the social problem?  Research support?
  2. Solution:  What’s been tried before?  What’s the new innovation
  3. Social Impact:  How will you measure success? What key data outputs and/or outcomes will tell us we are successful?
  4. Differentiation from competitors:  if applicable, what are the trends within the field?  Who are the competitors?  Who are the collaborators?
  5. Financial model:  If applicable, what are the costs (costs per unit of service if possible) associated with providing the service and achieving the social impact?;  How sustainable is the innovation currently?
  6. What’s the social return of investment?  If the innovation is achieved (something changed) what are the calculations that determine the return to society?

The Philadelphia Social Innovations Journal will collect the ideas we get from all of you, feature them in future editions, and when appropriate share them with government and social sector funders.
